When a sea turtle needs to go to a rehab facility or from one facility to another, the transport team can be called to complete the transport in their own vehicle or one of the two STPS vehicles. In either case the transport must be completed in a timely and safe manner to prevent any further injury or trauma to the turtle.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission issued a transport permit to an STPS member and that individual can have up to 24 additional people named on the permit to assist with the activities. This permit expires at the end of the calendar year, but can be renewed.
A stranding team member responds to the call quickly in the case of a live animal.. A live animal is evaluated by a stranding team volunteer on the spot and transported to a rehabilitation facility designated by FWC. Transporters are often called to complete the actual transport.
