Sea Turtle Emergency Response Program (STERP)

STERP

When specific weather events occur in the fall, Sea Turtle Emergency Response Program (STERP) volunteers walk the beach to search in the seaweed piles for trapped post-hatchling washbacks, in order to find and rescue these imperiled post-hatchlings.

Our volunteers may assist with transporting sea turtles to rehab facilities at Brevard Zoo, SeaWorld, Ponce Inlet, Mote and other locations using either their own vehicles (must be enclosed) or our vehicles. We also utilize STERP volunteers when we have other major events, such as potential cold stuns or educational projects.
